Noah Kahan Shares Why He's Already Writing His Next Album While on Tour

Noah Kahan is already working on new music while touring in support of his latest album, The Great Divide. The current tour arrives at Boston's Fenway Park on Tuesday for the first of four sold-out shows.

Speaking with ABC Audio, Kahan said he learned an important lesson from his previous tour. At the time, he focused entirely on performing and stopped writing new material, something he now considers a mistake.

When it came time to write the songs that became The Great Divide, Kahan said he experienced depression and anxiety, leading to what he described as an "OCD meltdown" that required him to go back on medication.

Now, Kahan says he is making a point to continue writing throughout the tour.

"I'm always writing," he said, explaining that staying creative helps him continue discovering more about himself while maintaining control over the creative process as life on the road becomes increasingly busy.

Despite keeping his focus on writing, Kahan says he is still enjoying every stop on the tour, which will also visit Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

He added that hearing fans sing along to his songs remains one of the most rewarding parts of performing live.

"That's the best feeling in the world," Kahan said.
