Graeme Jefferies Canary in a Coalmine

$21.99 USD

Description
Legendary NZ singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Graeme Jefferies is well known for his work in Nocturnal Projections, This Kind of Punishment, and The Cakekitchen. Canary in the Coalmine marks Jefferies second solo record, arriving 35 years after his first, Messages For The Cakekitchen, released on Flying Nun in 1988 (reissued by Ally Records, 2021). Canary features 10 new songs written, performed, recorded, and mastered by Jefferies during the COVID-19 lockdown. Inspired by Emily Brontes spiritual beliefs, NZs most famous racehorse, and the haunting timbre of a meticulously-restored Marxophone, Jefferies mesmerizes with perhaps his finest balladry yet. Where Did We All Go Wrong? and Where Do We Run To Now? wrestle with the challenges presented by pandemic isolation and uncertainty. Jefferies deftly examines the limited choices during lockdown, employing a bit of black humor and finger pointing to stir the soul, and bringing some much-needed levity to this unprecedented time. A1. I Wish We Could Turn Back The Clock Like Its 1978 (4:22) A2. I Want To Know What the West Wind Knows (4:53). A3. Where Did We All Go Wrong (5:21) A4. Canary in a Coalmine (4:20) A5. The Love of a Ginger Cat (2:50) B1. Brand New Start (5:27) B2. Cracks in Our Clay (3:21) B3. Where Can We Run to Now? (4:14) B4. The Things We Do for Love (6:12) B5. Freedom Day Elephant Chant (2:59)
