A cassette tape featuring a demo recording by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is headed to auction, offering a rare look at an unreleased song written for a James Bond film.
The demo contains Martin performing "The World Is Not Enough," a song recorded as an attempt at a theme for the 1999 James Bond movie of the same name.
According to the auction listing, the original Parlophone reference cassette features a stripped-back acoustic guitar and vocal performance by Martin before any studio production. The listing notes that the Bond theme was ultimately recorded by Garbage and describes the demo as an alternate musical direction.
The cassette comes from the archives of producer Chris Allison, who worked with Coldplay during the band's early years. The auction listing also states that, to the best of current knowledge, the recording has never been commercially released or publicly circulated and that it is unknown whether the demo was ever submitted for consideration for the film.
The auction is open through July 19 on WaxPoetics.com.
Martin previously told NME in 2021 that Coldplay had continued writing Bond themes over the years but had never submitted them.
