Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante will temporarily step away from the band's current tour after suffering an injury to his right hand.

Benante shared the news in a message posted to Instagram, explaining that doctors have advised him to take time off from performing in order to allow the injury to heal properly.

As a result, Benante will miss Anthrax performances through the band's July 4 concert in Spain.

“I'm incredibly grateful that Darby Todd will be stepping in behind the kit for these dates and helping keep the shows rolling while I recover,” Benante said. “I'm already focused on getting healthy and look forward to being back on the road soon. Thank you all for the support and understanding.”

Drummer Darby Todd will handle performance duties during Benante's absence.

According to the announcement, Benante is expected to return for Anthrax's July 7 show in Portugal.

Following the European run, Anthrax will prepare for a major North American tour alongside Iron Maiden and Megadeth beginning in September, one of the most anticipated metal tours of the year.

Fans have responded with messages of support online as Benante focuses on recovery ahead of his planned return to the stage.
