System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has joined electronic musician and producer Brendan Angelides for a new cover of David Bowie's song "I'm Afraid of Americans."

The collaboration draws inspiration from Trent Reznor's remix of the song, which was released as part of the 1997 single.

Angelides shared how the project came together, explaining that he has been working on a new album over the past year. As one of the tracks developed, he unexpectedly began singing the lyrics to Bowie's song and immediately thought of collaborating with Tankian.

"I always loved Trent Reznor's remix of Bowie's original," Angelides said. "I've been working on a new album for the past year, and as this particular beat came together, I unexpectedly started singing those words on top. The first person I thought to collab with was Serj. He has been an inspiration to me forever, and I'm now lucky to call him a friend."

The cover of "I'm Afraid of Americans" will appear on Angelides' upcoming album, Can You Feel the End Begin?, which is scheduled for release on August 14.
