Evanescence’s Amy Lee is looking back on “End of You,” her 2025 collaboration with Poppy and Courtney LaPlante, as the song approaches its first anniversary in September.
Lee tells ABC Audio that producer Jordan Fish initially reached out after he and Poppy had been working on the song and came up with the idea of creating an all-women collaboration.
“Then we got Courtney, too, and everybody put in their spices and it turned into a song that blew up,” Lee recalls.
“End of You” went on to make history, becoming the first song led by three women to reach #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart since the chart began in 1981.
“It was really, really cool to see such a fantastic response,” Lee says. “I’m not surprised; from the beginning I was like, ‘People are gonna love this!’”
Lee also felt the collaboration offered an opportunity to spotlight the impact women are having across heavy music.
“People are gonna love to see us join forces, see strong women in heavy music join forces, because women are kinda ruling heavy music right now,” Lee recalls thinking. “It deserves to have a little bit of light shined on that.”
Evanescence recently wrapped a U.S. tour supporting their new album, Sanctuary, which featured Spiritbox on the bill. The band will launch a U.K. and European tour in September with Poppy providing support.
