Aimee Mann has revealed that she almost turned down Rush's invitation to join the band during the opening dates of their 50 Something tour in Los Angeles.

Mann appeared onstage to reprise her role on "Time Stand Still," the song she originally contributed to on Rush's 1987 album Hold Your Fire. However, she shared in a recent Instagram post that accepting the invitation was not an easy decision.

In a hand-drawn comic titled "What I did last week," Mann explained that she received an email from Rush bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee back in March asking if she would participate in the shows.

"Way back in March, I got an email from Geddy Lee, from the band Rush," Mann wrote. "But I was quite frankly in a s***** place and couldn't imagine doing it."

She admitted that she struggled to respond because of her mindset at the time, but ultimately realized she would regret passing on the opportunity.

After agreeing to perform, Mann said Rush made her feel immediately welcome.

"They were so kind and welcoming," she wrote. "I felt protected by their bubble of music and Canadian warmth, and buoyed aloft by their fans."

The comic also detailed her anxiety about performing at the massive Kia Forum and joked that her original plan was to simply apologize and explain that she was "a crazy person."

Instead, Mann took the stage alongside Lee and helped deliver one of Rush's most beloved songs to enthusiastic audiences during the band's four-night Los Angeles run.

Rush's 50 Something tour now heads to Mexico City for two performances before continuing with additional dates later this year.
